The Yakutian laika has a double coat consisting of a soft, dense undercoat and a slightly coarser topcoat. This unique fur protects them from the harsh climate conditions they originally come from.Although the coat requires regular brushing, especially during shedding periods, it is worth the effort to avoid hair spreading throughout the home.Behavior and temperament
The Yakutian Laika is a versatile dog breed with a loving and sociable temperament. They form strong bonds with their human family, especially with their children. The Yakutian Laika generally gets along well with other dogs, especially if they have been raised together.Although they have a watchful instinct and will alert to unusual events, they are usually not aggressive and often greet strangers with enthusiasm.Training and exercise
Yakutian laika is an intelligent race that learns quickly, although they can be a bit stubborn. This breed needs a lot of exercise to be happy.History:
Although this breed is originally old, it is considered relatively new in Norway. The first Yakutian Laika dogs to arrive in the country were imported from Russia in 2017.Already the following year, the first Norwegian litter was born, but since the breed was not approved in Norway, the litter was registered at a Russian kennel, the same one that owned the sire of the litter. The aim of importing the Yakutian Laika to Norway was to get a simple and versatile polar dog. The breed is known for being easy to learn, curious and trusting, as well as having a lot of energy. Some use Yakutian Laika for big game hunting, agility, obedience and draft. However, it is important to note that this breed is not an elk dog or a border collie, and it cannot be compared to these two in terms of hunting or obedience. The breed club:
