The Xoloitzcuintli is a happy, lively and sociable dog. Some individuals may be more reserved towards strangers due to their strong primordial nature, but they are not hostile or aggressive.

Health

The Xoloitzcuintli Toy has no recorded breed-related health problems. Nevertheless, the breed club recommends that all breeding animals be tested for patella. For miniature and medium-sized varieties, ophthalmoscopy is recommended, and for the large Xoloitzcuintle, both ophthalmoscopy and HD/AD X-ray are recommended.

Size and Appearance

Xoloitzcuintli comes in three sizes: Miniature (25-35 cm), Medium (36-45 cm) and Standard (46-60 cm). The breed is available in both naked and furred varieties. The nude variety comes in a variety of colors and shades, including black, grey, liver, bronze, blonde and red. The dark colors are preferred, and both the naked and the furry variety can be spotted or have other marking patterns.

Fur grooming

The coat of the Xoloitzcuintli with fur (con pelo) is easy to maintain, especially when it is straight. The naked variety may need lubrication to protect it from dryness and weather conditions.
