History and appearance

The Thai Bangkaew Dog originated in Thailand and is known for its square build and well-proportioned body. It has a rather broad and deep chest and a unique double coat that forms a collar around the neck and shoulders, as well as a plume on the tail. Male dogs have thicker bone stock than bitches.

Temperament and behavior

The breed is alert, intelligent, loyal, watchful and obedient. It is easy to train and has a slightly reserved attitude towards strangers. The Thai Bangkaew Dog is a dog with a strong social bond with its family and will be a reliable companion.

Head and face

The head is wedge-shaped and proportionate to the body. It has a clearly defined stop and a nasal cartilage that is as dark as possible and harmonizes with the muzzle. The eyes are medium-sized, almond-shaped and black or dark brown. The ears are small in relation to the head, set rather high and triangular with slightly pointed tips.

Body and movements

The back is flat and straight, and the loin is broad and strong. The chest is quite broad and deep, and the ribs are well sprung. Thai Bangkaew Dog has flexible and powerful movements with good reach and drive. The movements should be parallel front and back, and the back line should be kept straight with a proud posture.

Fur and color

The breed has a double coat with straight and coarse undercoat as well as soft and dense undercoat. The coat is moderately long on the body, but longer around the neck and shoulders, where it forms a collar that is more pronounced in male dogs. The coat can be various colors, including white with clearly defined spots in shades of “lemon”, red, fawn, tan or grey. There may also be black hair tips and markings that may appear tricolor. Symmetrical markings on the head covering the eyes and ears are preferred.

Size and weight

The height at the withers for male dogs is between 46-55 cm, while the height at the withers for bitches is between 41-50 cm.

Faults and disqualifying faults

Any deviation from the breed description must be considered a fault, and the severity of the fault must be assessed based on the effect on the dog’s health, welfare and ability to perform its traditional work. Some serious faults include more than 3 missing teeth, solid white coat, aggression or shyness, physical or mental defects, overbite or underbite, drooping ears, natural stubby tail, short or smooth coat, and solid color coat with only small white markings.Good luck!
