Size and appearance:

The most striking features of the podenco ibicenco smooth are the large, upright ears, the amber eyes and the elegant movements. It is slim but muscular. Podenco ibicenco is available in smooth-haired and straight-haired variants. The color varies between reddish brown and white, and they can be completely white or reddish brown with white markings.

Health:

Podenco ibicenco smooth hair is generally a healthy breed, and rare cases of allergy or epilepsy may occur. Some individuals may also experience cataracts and RD (retinal dysplasia). Oyenlyse is recommended for breeding dogs, and the breed has an expected life expectancy of 13-14 years.

History:

The Podenco ibicenco is believed to be descended from the ancient Egyptian hunting dog, also known as Tesem. The Phoenicians brought these dogs to the island of Eivissa (Ibiza) as early as 8. century BC There, they have traditionally been used for hunting rabbits and other small game in the Catalan-speaking areas of Spain.
