History:

The Petit basset griffon vendeen originates from the Vendée province on the French west coast. It is assumed that the small type was formed as a mutation of the large Grand griffon vendee. The breed was close to extinction after the French Revolution, but dedicated breeders saved it. In 1950, the petit basset and grand basset were split as separate breeds, having previously been considered the same type. It quickly became popular as a slow-moving dog for deer hunting and has the ability to quickly drop off and return.

The coat should be straight, not too long, silky or woolly. The color can vary with many different combinations. The breed has a size of 34 to 38 cm.
