History:
The Parson Russell Terrier was developed by parish priest John Russell in the 19th century as a hunting dog for fox hunting. The breed was recognized by The Kennel Club in 1989 after achieving a large enough group of dogs that met John Russell’s original breed standard.Characteristics and mentality:
The Parson Russell Terrier is intelligent, active and quick, and is suitable both as a hunting dog and a family dog. It is easy to learn, requires mental and physical activity, and is well suited to various activities such as agility and use-related exercises. The breed thrives on clear rules and is child-friendly, incorruptible and alert without being barky.Size and appearance:
The breed has an ideal height of 33 to 36 cm and a supple and athletic build that is suitable for hunting. The fur can be smooth-haired, broken or straight-haired, and is attached and water-repellent. The color is mainly white with spots in tan and/or black.Fur care:
Smooth-haired fur only requires normal cleaning, while straight-haired fur must be trimmed 2 to 4 times a year. There are also grades of broken fur, and the amount of fur trimming depends on the grade.Do you want to learn more about the breed?
