Old Danish pointer gives an impression of calm, balance, determination and courage. During the hunt, it moves relatively slowly and maintains constant contact with the hunter, while at the same time performing its task as a standing bird dog without disturbing the terrain unnecessarily. It is equally suitable for large and small hunting grounds.This breed is very social and thrives best when it is with its family. One of the most charming features of the breed is the great difference between male dogs and bitches. The males are powerful and substantial, while the bitches are lighter, livelier and more temperamental.

Appearance and Size

Old Danish chicken dog is medium in size with a rectangular and powerfully built body. It is white in color with brown markings, and may have a few large or many small brown spots (freckles) in the white. The brown color can vary, but a brown to dark brown color is preferred. The height at the withers for male dogs is between 54-60 cm, with an ideal height above 56 cm. The bitches have a height at the withers of 50-56 cm, with an ideal height of over 52 cm.

Fur care and maintenance

Old Danish chicken dog requires minimal grooming. It has a simple coat that doesn’t need much maintenance, making it easier for you to take care of your four-legged friend.
