History
The Kerry Blue Terrier is descended from old Irish terrier varieties and hound-type dogs, and Irish wolfhounds are also believed to have been mixed in. The breed has been featured in Irish literature since the mid-1800s. In the 20th century it was chosen as the Irish national breed, and the Irish Kerry Blue Terrier Club was founded in 1920. The breed standard was established in 1921, and the Irish Kerry Club helped start the Irish Kennel Club in 1922.Characteristics/Mentality
