The Hovawarten is an old German working dog breed that can be traced back to the 13th century. century. The name comes from the old German words “hova”, meaning farm, and “wart”, meaning guardian. It was originally used as a reliable farm guardian.However, the breed was almost lost, and it was not until 1922 that enthusiasts began to revive it in Germany. During the revival process, the Hovawarten was crossed with German Shepherds, Newfoundlanders, Kuvasz and other breeds. The Hovawart breed club was established in Norway in 1983.Characteristics and mentality
