The Hanoverian Gamehound has its origins in the German Leithund from the Middle Ages and has been purebred since 1850. The breed is not widespread in Norway, but it has a long history as a tracking dog.Characteristics and Mentality
The Hanoverian is known for its calm nature and requires a lot of contact with its handler and family. It is initially somewhat reserved towards strangers, but not afraid or aggressive. The breed has good game acuity and is very concentrated during the hunt. It shows a distinct loyalty to the hunter. Hanoverian Game Tracker is primarily used as a search dog for hoofed game, but can also be a band dog during moose and deer hunting.Size and Appearance
The breed is medium-sized, well-proportioned and very efficient. It has well-set and muscular fore and hind legs, which make it suitable for persistent work. The breed has a strong and deep chest which gives good volume for the lungs and enables long-term hunting. It has a slightly wrinkled forehead and clear dark eyes that give a serious and breed-typical expression. The red base color varies from light pale red to dark tiger, and can even appear almost black. Male dogs have a withers height of 50-55 cm, while bitches have a withers height of 48-53 cm.Fur grooming
