The long-haired German pointer has a long history that goes back to Germany. It combines bloodlines from bird, hawk and water dogs, as well as dusters, which gives it great versatility. The breed has been bred since 1879, when the first standard was written by Baron von Schorlemer.

The long-haired German pointer has a powerful and muscular body with harmonious lines. It should not be high-pitched, and smaller dogs should have sufficient substance. The dog has an elongated and noble head with a slightly domed skull. The eyes are brown, the eyelids are well closed, and the ears are turned slightly forward.
