Characteristics and mentality:
The dachshund is known for its energetic and inventive temperament. It is used today as a hunting dog, driving dog, tracking and search dog. The dachshund is a clear first choice for deer hunting and proves to be a good game finder. In addition to its hunting skills, it is also a great family dog and walking companion. It shows energy, charm and radiance at exhibitions and is often among the best in the competition.Size, appearance and variants:
The dachshund comes in nine different breed variants based on size: Standard, dwarf, and rabbit dachshund. In addition, the breed is divided into three coat variants: Straight-haired, long-haired and short-haired. The wire-haired variety has a smooth, close-fitting, dense and wiry coat with underwool, while the long-haired variety has longer fur on the neck, underside of the body and ears, forming a full plume on the tail. The shorthair has short, dense, shiny and attached fur without visible bare spots.Health and fur care:
The dachshund is generally a healthy breed and has an expected life expectancy. Spinal prolapse is a common disease in dachshunds. Fur problems are rare, and proper care of the fur requires moderate effort. Short hair needs a stiff brush and polishing leather, long hair needs a fine-toothed metal comb, and the straight hair must be trimmed and brushed regularly. You can find everything you need for grooming in our catalogues.History
The straight-haired dachshund has its origins in Germany, where “dachs” means badger. The breed has been bred from pollinator breeds that were particularly suitable for hijact. The dachshund is now recognized worldwide as one of the most versatile and useful hunting dogs.Breed club
