Characteristics and mentality

The Bull Terrier has a varied nature, and different owners will describe the dog’s personality in different ways. It is kind, stubborn, headstrong, inventive, cheerful and humorous. It is also terribly stubborn, confident and determined. This breed is a special dog that requires understanding, guidance and boundary setting.

History

The Bull Terrier was created by James Hinks, who wanted to develop a “gentleman’s companion”. The English bulldog, the Dalmatian and the extinct English white terrier were important ingredients in the breeding. The breed quickly became popular and gained fashionable dog status, and in 1887 The Bull Terrier Club was formed. The breed was incorrectly described as fighting dog in origin due to confusion with other breeds.

Size and appearance

The Bull Terrier is powerfully built, muscular and has an eager, determined and intelligent expression. The head is egg-shaped with a flat skull and slanted, triangular eyes. The body has rounded lines, a broad chest and a short, straight back. The tail is set low and carried horizontally. The breed comes in different colours, and there are no weight or height restrictions, but the dog must give the impression of maximum substance in relation to its size.

Health

The Bull Terrier can be prone to injury and has a tendency to put itself in danger. It can also have skin problems, kidney disease and heart defects. It is important to be aware of the breed’s health and seek the necessary treatment if necessary.

Fur grooming

The Bull Terrier’s coat should be short, flat and smooth with a shiny sheen. The coat is easy to care for.
