History

The Boston Terrier was bred by a group of dog enthusiasts in and around Boston, Massachusetts in the USA. Between 1870 and 1890, these enthusiasts began to focus on creating a specific breed, but the details of the breeding process are little known. The breed is claimed to have arisen as a result of crosses between bulldogs and various terriers that were used for dog fighting. These dogs came to the United States from England. In 1893, the Boston Terrier was recognized by the American Kennel Club and thus became the national breed of the United States. In Norway, the Norwegian Boston Terrier Club was established on 1 January 2010.

The Boston Terrier is a lively and highly intelligent dog. It is also a very versatile companion that thrives on the sofa as well as in the forest, or as a participant in various dog sports. The breed is remarkably friendly and the combination of friendliness and intelligence makes it an outstanding companion dog.

Size and Appearance

The Boston Terrier is a smooth-haired dog with a short head and compact body. It has a short tail and well-balanced proportions. Approved colors include brindle, seal or black with well-placed white markings. The dog’s head should be in proportion to the size of the body and express intelligence. It has strong and well-angled legs, and no details should be so prominent that they disturb the proportions. The Boston Terrier should radiate determination, strength, energy and style. The breed should not weigh more than 11.4 kilograms.

The coat of the Boston Terrier is easy to care for and can be brushed with a rubber brush. If necessary, it can be bathed. The fur has a short and smooth structure that shines beautifully.
