History

The Miniature Schnauzer has a long history as a farm and stable dog for southern German farmers in the areas around Bavaria and Austria. It was first mentioned in literature in 1842. The schnauzer’s duties included guarding and pest control on the farms and near the stables. The dogs were alert and attentive, while also being loyal companions for travelers. With its robustness, fearlessness and endurance, combined with a well-developed sensory apparatus, the schnauzer was an ideal choice for these tasks.

The schnauzer has proven to be skilled in activities such as IPO, search dog work both in summer and winter, and visiting dog.
