Originally all Kelpies were a breed, but from 1967 the Working Kelpie was registered by the Working Kelpie Council and the Australian Kelpie by the Kennel Club. The split became official in 1976 when the Australian Kennel Club decided not to recognize the Working Kelpie, which has affected the breeds globally.
